SF <sub>6</sub> catalytic degradation in a γ‐Al <sub>2</sub> O <sub>3</sub> packed bed plasma system: A combined experimental and theoretical study

Effective abatement of the greenhouse gas sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) waste is great importance for environment protection. This work investigates size effect and surface properties γ-Al2O3 pellets on SF6 degradation in a packed bed dielectric barrier discharge (PB-DBD) system. Experimental results show that decreasing packing improves filamentary discharges promotes ignition maintenance plasma, enhancing performance at low input powers. However, too small decrease residence time reduce efficiency, especially power beyond 80 W. Besides, lowering generation SO2, while reduces yields S-O-F products, corresponding to better degradation. After discharge, pellet becomes smoother with appearance S F elements. Density functional theory calculations likely be adsorbed AlIII site over γ-Al2O3(110) surface, it much more easily decompose than phase.
